<abstract displayLabel="Summary">En España hay gran cantidad de vertederos de residuos urbanos con un potencial inherente de daños al medio ambiente. El peligro consiste por una parte, en que en estos vertederos se producen deslizamientos y, por otra, en que contaminan el ambiente de tal manera que dañan una amplia zona circundante. Actualmente no se puede decir cuántos vertederos tendrán que calificarse de peligrosos para el medio ambiente. Por este motivo, debería determinarse el potencial de peligrosidad mediante análisis de riesgos, estudiando, documentando y valorando la técnica de la construcción, las características de la ubicación, la existencia de aguas infiltradas y gases del vertedero y la técnica empleada en la recultivación del terreno. Según el caso se deberá sanear el terreno para garantizar la protección del medio ambiente</abstract>
