<abstract displayLabel="Summary">La biomasa vegetal es la primera fuente de combustible que conoce la humanidad. No obstante, el empleo de biomasa, más allá de su combustión directa, necesita desarrollar procesos que conduzcan a un combustibles fácil de transportar y de utilizar. La biomasa puede orientarse a producir un combustible y productos químicos básicos, de los que pueden obtenerse el resto de productos químicos, polímeros o materiales con base en el carbono.</abstract>
