<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Large-scale infectious disease events can cause billions -or even trillions- of dollars in economic and insured life and health losses. While medical advancements work in our davor, an ever more connected world, a warming climate, shifting animal habitats and longer life spans affect the likelihood and magnitude of pandemics. Because managing pandemic risk is vital, the World Bank is developing a financial instrument agent, to help combat the impact of an outbreak. Conducing large-loss scenario analyses can help insurers manage pandemic risk and be ready for extreme events such as a global flu outbreak.</abstract>
