<abstract displayLabel="Summary"> Willis Re's Reinsurance market report which tracks the capital and profitability of the global reinsurance industry: 1. we calculate the total capital dedicated to the global reinsurance industry measured USD 462B at year-end 2018. The two largest components are the equity capital of reinsurers in our INDEX  and alternative capital; 2. this total capital figure dropped 5% during 2018, including a 10% drop for INDEX companies, partly driven by M&A. Alternative capital, however,  grew by 6%; 3.  looking back to 2014, the industry's capital base has grown at a CAGR of 2%, driven by a 9% growth rate in alternative capital</abstract>
