Next-generation 5G networks are widely seen as one of the most fundamental technology developments of our current century. Much has been written about the potential of these ultra-high-speed, low-latency networks to drive a new era of digital innovation, breakthrough applications, and revenue growth for mobile operators and the economy as a whole. Over the coming years, 5G is expected to create the wireless network capacity, performance and flexibility to support an explosive increase in connected devices, along with exciting new use cases, that transmit exponentially greater amounts of data at exponentially higher speeds. From self-driving cars and smart infrastructure to virtual reality and remote robotic surgery, 5G networks seem poised to change the world.
