<abstract displayLabel="Summary">COVID-19 is an unfolding humanitarian crisis that has triggered an economic crisis. However, COVID-19 is not yet' an extreme' mortality event for the life (re)insurance industry. Planning and modelling for the most optimum interventions to defeat the pandemic need to be on a scenario basis, not a best estimate or probabilistic basis, and that current models are too simplistic to deal with the complexity of the situation.</abstract>
