<abstract displayLabel="Summary">The transport and logistics sector has seen marked improvements in recent decades, despite its history of coping with inefficiencies. Fundamental efficiency increases have typically been linked to new technologies and applications entering the market, such as the introduction of containers and pallets. Along with the facilitated handling of goods, came an explosion in trade volumes, and the resulting economies of scale brought costs down. As transport and logistics became more efficient, prices decreased.</abstract>
