Publication: New Jersey : A.M. Best Company, 2021Physical description: 6 p.Series: (Best's Market Segment Report ; March 4, 2021)Notes: Sumario: Although auto insurers have yet to file their 2020 financial statements, in the aggregate, they appear primed to report significant increases in profitability for full-year 2020, despite-and in sorne cases due partly to-the pandemic. The lnsurance Information lnstitute estimated that US auto insurance carriers will return an estimated $14 billion. These refunds may show up in the income statement as premium refunds, policyholder dividends, oras underwriting expenses, depending on the nature of the refunds and the accounting treatment. AM Best estimates that $4 billion of that total will come from premium refunds alone. With schools closing, employers shifting to remate working, and group events being cancelled in attempts to stem the spread of the virus, the number ofvehicles on the road declined significantly. Many employees shifted to working from home and kept their travelling relatively clase to home, focusing on only necessary travel. Restrictions on gatherings in otherwise public places like bars, restaurants, retail stores, and malls also limited travel.
