Having evolved over the past 10 years through a series of takeovers. mergers and joint-ventures between banks and insurance companies, bancassurance has now become an increasingly dominant force in the European financial services sector. This trend is forecast to continue until the early years of the next century. In spite of the difficulties of combining different business cultures, bancassurance offers advantages not only in the distribution of insurance products, but also on the product side, providing low-cost access to a large volume of customers. Indeed, the distinctions between banks and insurance companies are fading. The constant drive to cut costs, increase efficiency, achieve economies of scale and bring about synergy for the future, is causing greater integration within the financial services sector</dc:description>
