But the Fed is increasingly in a "lose-lose" situation: if it needs to be more aggressive to rein in inflation, it could cause an asset shock. If inflation moderates and interest rates do not rise much, the Fed will have less of an interest rate buffer for the next downturn. In any case, 2022 is the year of policy tightening and this matters a great deal for financial markets and the insurance industry alike.</subfield>
