The United Nations defines microfinance as a small-scale financial service provided to low-income persons. But microfinance is not just another tool among many in the fight against global poverty. The challenge they face is threefold: reducing the environmental footprint of their suppliers and customers; increasing their beneficiaries' resilience to climate change; and promoting the adoption of green practices and technologies.
