This comes on the heels of 0.4% and 0.1% gains in April and May, respectively. The CPI for energy was up 0.6% in June after falling 3.6% in May. The CPI for gasoline increased 1%, while energy services prices inched 0.4% higher. Elsewhere, food prices were up 0.1% after rising 0.2% in May. On a year ago basis, the not seasonally adjusted CPI was up 3%. Consequently, annual headline CPI inflation is at its lowest since March 2021, when the economy was just beginning to reopen from the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic
