<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Seule une très faible minorité d'un grand nombre de substances couramment utilisées présentent des évidences en faveur ou non d'un effet reproductif ou génotoxique. L'effort de recherche se poursuit, mais sur une petite échelle par rapport aux besoins d'information. On dispose actuellement d'un nombre limité d'hypothèses spécifiques à tester par manque d'évidences, mais il est difficile d'initier des études en l'absence d'hypothèse. Sur un plan méthodologique, ce type de recherche est parsemé de difficultés. L'application des résultats des études toxicologiques sur l'animal peut être suggestive, mais de telles extrapolations sont peu fiables compte tenu de l'existence de profondes différences concernant les mécanismes reproductifs et/ou toxicologiques en jeu. Les données épidémiologiques restent donc indispensables</abstract>
