<abstract displayLabel="Summary">L'article présente les résultats des investigations des 15 dernièrs ans sur les mécanismes possibles de cancérogénèse qui se regroupent autour de trois thèmes: action des matières organiques présentes dans ou sur la fibre, et en particulier des hydrocarbures polycycliques aromatiques; action des complexes métalliques formes à partir des constituants principaux des amiantes ou de certains métaux tels que le chrome ou le nickel présents à l'état d'impuretés dans les amiantes; "effet fibre" purement physique, analogue à l'effet Oppenheimer décrit dans les années 1950, à propos d'implantation de cors étrangers ayant une géométrie particulière</abstract>
