<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Le seuil de détection olfactive de 217 substances chimiques est comparé à des critères de danger et de toxicité: limite inférieure d'explosivité, dose léthale et dose toxique les plus basses déterminées chez l'homme et valeur limite d'exposition admise dans l'atmosphère des lieux de travail. A partir du calcul des rapports de sécurité entre l'acuité olfactive et les autres critères, il est établi une classification générale de ces substances pour lesquelles la détection olfactive pourrrait ou ne pourrait pas être un élément de sécurité vis-à-vis d'une situation de risque aigu ou chronique</abstract>
