<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Les études épidémiologiques de mortalité conduites dans des cohortes de salaries de l'industrie sont souvent orientées vers la mise en évidence d'éventuels risques professionnels de cancers broncho-pulmonaires. Cet article décrit les méthodes épidémiologiques, en mettant l'accent sur l'une. Cette méthode permet, devant la constatation d'un excès statistiquement significatif de cancers broncho-pulmonaires dans une cohorte, d'estimer la fraction de cet excès qui est attribuable au tabagisme et donc d'apprécier le risque apécifique étudié. Le modèle théorique de cette méthode, ainsi que les exemples d'utilisation, révèlent qu'un excès de consommation de tabac ne peut vraisemblablement pas expliquer en totalité un excès supérieur à 1,50 pour la mortalité par cancers broncho-pulmonaires</abstract>
