<subfield code="a">Exposure to isocyanates causes asthma in up to 5% of people. The mechanism of isocyanate induced asthma is unknown. Early, late, or dual asthmatic reactions can be induced by inhalation of low concentrations of isocyanates in the laboratory, and late asthmatic reactions and the associated increase of bronchial hyperreactivity are prevented by corticosteroids. This article compared T cell subpopulations and circulating leucocytes after experimental inhalation of either toluene diisocyanate or filtered air as a control in asmatics who were previously identified as dual or late responders</subfield>
