<subfield code="a">The measures which can be used to evaluate an individual's lead status are discussed, with particular reference to the correction of blood lead levels for haematocrit. This correction has fallen into disrepute in recent years, the argument against it being based principally on work involving the analysis of lead in plasma. It is maintained that this analysis was incorrect and the conclusions drawn therefrom are invalid. Some experimental evidence supporting the validity of the haematocrit correction is presented</subfield>
