520  ‎$a‎Two commercially available portable direct-reading respirable-dust monitors have been tested in a laboratory calm air chamber against a range of airborne dusts. Relative to concentrations measured with the MRE 113A horizontal elutriator the instruments showed a variable degree of agreement, and could be influenced both by particle size distribution and by particle composition. For a given composition and particle size distribution however it should be possible to calibrate the instruments to give consistent agreement with the horizontal elutriator
