<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Este artículo resume las variables que afectan la capacidad de manipulación de materiales y las tres aproximaciones básicas para determinar las capacidades y los límites: las aproximaciones biomecánica, fisiológica y psicológica. El artículo presenta varios modelos, desarrollados en cada una de las aproximaciones junto con una discusión del progreso efectuado y las dificultades encontradas para derivar recomendaciones de capacidad de cada una. Finalmente, el artículo presenta la última recomendación sobre cómo estas aproximaciones pueden ser integradas en un modelo global simple para establecer límites al levantamiento de cargas</abstract>
