Sumario: Due to the progress of automation in nearly all facets of life, the research of studying in detail the cognitive processes used by people doing complex tasks is of increasing importance. This issue includes field studies of several complex control tasks (control of industrial processes, coordination of fire fighting, train traffic control). It will give a good impression of the struggle which is intrinsic to the desire to tackle this kind of problem
