<subfield code="a">System response times are regarded as a major stressor in human-computer interaction. The present study was designed to investigate appropriate SRTs for the tasks used in the first two studies with inexperienced users. For this, a set of system reaction times (SRTs) in between short (2s) and long ones (8s) was chosen to cover a certain range of SRTs. Additonally, to provide information about the internal representation of the SRTs, a stop reaction time procedure was used, where the normal SRTs were occasionally changed to infinite waits of the computer (system break down), which had to be detected and terminated by the user. To keep this secundary task free from the influences by the experimental set, it was decided that no external time pressure would be placed on the subjects</subfield>
