520  ‎$a‎In Japan, hospital nurses have worked in a frequently rotating three-shift system for more than 30 years. Although a permanent day shift has been adopted for the outpatient clinics, permanent shifts have not been generally accepted in the wards for in-patients. The authors have conducted comprehensive investigations on the effects of a frequently rotating shift system on the health of nurses. As part of this investigation, the authors have used the timebudget method to study the effects of the frequently rotating work shift on sleep practices, free-time activities, and family life of nurses
