Knowing the rate of energy expenditure for work is useful for planning physically demanding work and the proper allocation of recovery time. Therefore, it is useful to know the metabolic rate associated with work in order to evaluate some of the demands on the worker. The methods of metabolic rate assessment are divided into the following categories for the sake of presentation: measurement of oxygen consumption, estimation by task analysis, estimation by activity analysis, estimation from tables, and estimation from other physiological variables
