520  ‎$a‎The purpose of this paper is to review the recent research on protective clothing against heat and chemical agents with emphasis on their effects on thermal balance, work performance and comfort. The high level of protection required by protective clothing (PPC) severely impedes heat exchange by sweat evaporation. Current methods of describing evaporative heat exchange with PPC are insufficient, will overestimate evaporative heat loss and should not be recommended
