Sumario: In the present study, the benefits and potential costs of search strategy preparation were investigated by explicitly manipulating the amount of pre-search information given to the observes regarding the symbol coding scheme used in a display. A redundancy gain was expected since all observes were aware of the different coding schemes, but observers who were cued with regard to the symbol coding scheme were expected to conduct a more efficient search than observers who were not cued because they would be able to set their strategy in advance
