Conference presented at the 13th International Ergonomics Association Triennial Congress, IEA'97. This was held in Tampere, Finland, June 29-July 4, 1997. The Congress was hosted by the Nordic Ergonomics Society and the Finnish Ergonomics Society
This paper deals with the question of how participative ergonomics can be established as a normal approach to decision making within enterprises. With Imada's definition as a point of departure, the Scandinavian approach is described. Next, the problems in making this approach function in accordance with intentions is examined. Finally, present tendencies to consolidate work environment in firms is discussed in relation to the fundamental idea behind participatory ergonomics
