<abstract>En España, la temporada de nevadas se extiende desde el 1 de noviembre de un año, hasta el 15 de abril del año siguiente. Aunque por el número de víctimas y por pérdidas económicas, el riesgo climatológico más importante son las inundaciones, las nevadas causan grandes transtornos en el desarrollo de la vida diaria e incluso víctimas mortales. Por ello, Protección Civil dispone del denominado SAFEMA (Sistema de Avisos ante Fenómenos Meteorólogicos Adversos), con el fín de proteger a la población: riesgo de nevadas y aludes, vientos fuertes, tormentas y rayos.
