<abstract>The primary purpose of this paper is to provide new evidence on the effects the European economic integration on the insurance industry by analyzing the effeciency and productivity of Spanish insurance companies over the period 1989 through 1996. The second purpose is to provide additional information on the role of alternative organizational forms in insurance market. The third purpose is to provide information on economies of scal in the Spanish insurance market.</abstract>
