Many in the captive sector are predicting a boom as a result of the hardening insurance market. This markes sense, since historically the biggest growth in captives has come during hard markets, at least in certain classes of insurance. Indeed, the captive concept took off in the first place because of a hard market. Tables: estimated captive market volume ( n) ; captives by domicile 1999; Bermuda's Class 1 insurers ( n) 1998-1999; Bermuda's Class 2 insurers ( n) 1998-1999
