<abstract>En los programas de ajuste estructural promovidos por el Fondo Monetario Internacional y el Banco Mundial para Costa Rica, derivados de la crisis de los años 80, se incluyeron planteamientos y reformas como la modernización de infraestructuras o telecomunicaciones, la reforma financiera, la apertura comercial... Todo ello ha conllevado que la población de Costa Rica haya sido puntera en cuanto a desarrollo humano en los últimos años, siendo el más alto de Centroamérica</abstract>
