<dc:description xml:lang="es">Sumario: Competition en financial services has considerably intensified since the late seventies under the impact of profound demand and supply changes, new communication and information technologies and ever-increasing internationalisation of national financial systems and markets. Moreover, public policy has been designed to promote the efficiency of fiancial systems through greater reliance on market forces and more regulatory scope for competition. This report presents the results of an extensive enquiry into banking structures and regulations in OECD countries and essesses the most significant changes since the early sixties. A history of deregulation and an inventory of relevant anti-trust laws, a set of definitions on financial regulation and competition policy as well as statistics on structural changes in financial systems are annexed to the report.</dc:description>
