<abstract displayLabel="Summary">This paper attempts to view Marxism in the way of Furet's classic work. The perspective of the paper is twofold. First of all, it aims to view marxism in the light of "the crisis of modernity", from the critical end of an age of enlightenment marked simultaneously by scientific and optimistic faith in reason. Secondly, the paper aims to view marxism from the angle of the crisis of modern Christian conscience. This crisis may well have caused the modern Cristian conscience to take on the belated vocation of successor to marxism itself, in the style of "los últimos de Filipinas".</abstract>
