<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Documentary Credits Operations are governed virtually worlwide in 146 countries by the ICC's Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits. When properly used, they are an invaluable and flexible payment instrument in countless transactions everyday throughout the world. The ICC Commission on Banking Technique and Practice which drew up these rules over fifty years ago, devotes a considerable part of its efforts to considering queries raised by commercial parties, carriers and forwarders, insurers and bankers, regarding the interpretation of the various provisions of the UCP and givin its opinions for the guidance of interested parties.</abstract>
