The utilities, oil and gas, transport infrastructure and pharmaceutical sectors, for instance, routinely have costly capital programs and long research and development projects underway or proposed. In environments with rapidly shifting market dynamics, such as today's, these investments are even more challenging. the extended duration of the projects and the fast-moving conditions of the marketplace combine to create situations with elevated levels of risk.
