<abstract displayLabel="Summary">As a teen, Paul Slovic loved sports and was an avid basketball player. An extension of this interest was calculating statistics like shooting percentages and batting averages. Although it had nothing to do with risk, aside from players¿ risks of injuries, failure to get on base, or win a game, his fascination with data and statistics was the groundwork for his future work in psychometrics and risk analysis. </abstract>
