<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Le vieillissement est un processus de transformation au cours du temps dont les répercussions en termes, de santé, d'emploi et d'insertion sociale, sont extrêmement variables. On peut s'avérer trop vieux à 25 ans dans certains ateliers du textile, alors que la limite d'âge est fixée à 75 ans au Conseil constitutionnel. Pour tel groupe professionnel, les modifications dues à l'âge sont à l'origine d'incapacités qui peuvent précipiter vers la perte de l'emploi, et la marginalisation sociale. Pour tel autre, elles sont, au contraire, facteur de compétence, de promotion et de reconnaissance sociale. Il faut donc envisager le vieillissement sous ses deux faces: involution des capacités fonctionnelles d'une part, développement, maturation, d'autre part. Dans le même temps, il serait souhaitable de faire la part des différentes influences qui pèsent sur ce phénomène et conditionnent son rythme et ses modalités</abstract>
