<abstract displayLabel="Summary">El mayor peligro que actualmente tienen los trabajadores que manipulan o participan en los procedimientos relacionados con la sangre, los líquidos orgánicos y otros materiales potencialmente peligrosos es el contraer una enfermedad infecciosa debido a los agentes hematopatológicos (AHP). Los agentes hematopatológicos son microorganismos que se encuentran en la sangre y en los derivados de ésta, los cuales pueden provocar enfermedades en los seres humanos. Entre estos se incluyen, aunque no en forma exclusiva, el virus de la hepatitis B y el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana, el cual produce el síndrome de inmunodeficiencia adquirida (SIDA)</abstract>
