<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Divers accidents survenus dans des constructions souterraines par suite de manque d'oxygène dans l'air montrent qu'on apprécie souvent mal les conditions qui y règnent. Jusqu'ici, le manque d'oxygène était attribué le plus souvent à quelque processus d'oxydation. Des recherches et des mesures minutieuses effectuées dans des ouvrages souterrains ont montré que, dans la plupart des cas, le manque d'oxigène n'etait pas imputable à de tels processus d'oxydation, mais à l'absorption de l'oxygène par l'eau.. Pour prévenir le manque d'oxygène ou pour y rémedier, les ouvrages souterrains exposés à ce danger devraient être ventilés artificiellement. On donne des indications sur le dimensionnement du dispositif de ventilation. On expose d'autres moyens pour prévenir les accidents dus au manque d'oxygène, tels que la mesure de la teneur en oxygène de l'air, l'utilisation de masques de protection appropiés.
