<abstract displayLabel="Summary">The authors believe that, as a basis for static sampling of airborne dust in the workplace in order to assess the various sub-fractions of inhaled dust particles which are deposited in the regions of the lung, it is desirable to start from a quantitative working definition of inhalability. In view of the wide general agreement obtained in independent inhalability experiments at their respective laboratories, such a definition can be confidently stated for particles with aerodynamic diameter up to 100 microm.
