Sumario: Many carcinogenic chemicals are used in tanning processes in the tanneries of the leather area of Tuscany. Proportional mortality data on a cohort of tannery workers showed an increased risk of lung cancer, oesophageal cancer, sarcomas and leukemias. From a cohort of workers and controls in the same area it obtained data by urinary mutagenic activity, desquamative lung and bladder citology
