Sumario: A prospective pulmonary surveillance study of workers employed in 14 North American man-made vitreous fibres (MMVF) manufacturing facilities is into its senond year. The results of the American Thoracic Society respiratory questionnaire for chronic cough, phegm production and dyspnea and the initial spirometric results demonstrated no association with length of employment in MMVF manufacturing. Manufacturing job-task analysis, environmental fibre exposure matriccs, past occupational historics and chest radiographic results will be incorporated into the study in ensuing years
