Inflammatory response to particles in the rat lung : secretion of acid and neutral proteinases by bronchoalveolar leucocytes / G.M. Brown, D.M. Brown and K. Donaldson
Sumario: Leucocyte activation is characterized by increased secretion of various enzymes and proteins and, in particular, proteolytic enzymes. In inflamed lung such activation may be mediated by phagocytosis of inhaled particles or by soluble mediators present in the inflammatory milieu, such as interleukin-1 or tumour necrosis factor. In this study, it addressed this aspect of leucocyte activation by exposing control and inflammatory bronchoalveolar leucocytes, in vitro, to soluble or particulate stimuli and the measuring their ability to degrade fibronectin and to secrete plasminogen activator
