The first experiment concerned alphanumeric reading performance and contrast thresholds for gratings subtending 7.5, 10 and 12.5 cycles per degree. Seated subjects were exposed to vertical sinusoidal whole-body vibration. In the second experiment, contrast thresholds for horizontally orientated gratings subtending 1.5 and 12.5 c deg-1 were obtained from the subjects at five minute intervals during a 60-minute whole-body vibration exposure, a 20 minute pre-exposure and a 60 minute post-exposure period</dc:description>
