The present study was initiated in response to an observation of nonuniform filter deposits in samplers collecting a tungsten carbide dust in an inhalation toxicology chamber. The sampler initially was used for asbestos measurements in these chambers and was applied to the tungsten carbide measurements for consistency. Such nonuniform air flow patterns in the inlet under anisoaxial conditions in combination with electrostatic, gravitational, or inertial forces
