520  ‎$a‎Several methods were used to determine the amount of isocyanates generated during spray-painting operations. NIOSH Method 5521 and OSHA Method 42 were used for the sampling and analysis of airborne 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). NIOSH Method 5521 was used to determine the concentration of polyisocyanate, with the method modified so that concentrations were determined based on polyisocyanate standars. NIOSH Method 0500 was used to determine the total particulates generated during spray-painting for all the area samples. A midget cascade impactor was used to determine the total particulates and particle size distribution in the breathing zone of the painter (personal samples)
