<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Progressive chemical companies continue to chip away at the more toxic and persistent byproducts of chlorine use. Research on the hazards of some chlorinated chemicals creates new, and disturbing, concerns. While industry has deflected the recent attack on chlorinated chemicals, pressure to identify risks and reduce or regulate selected organochlorines continues. The Clinton administration's suggestion that the EPA study and perhaps regulate chlorine chemical hazards as a class was heavily criticized last year in most public-policy forums</abstract>
