Static electrification of aerosol particles can be of practical importance when considering the health impact of aerosols and earosol sampling. This is especially true for small particles whose deposition in the alveolar region of the lung can be considerably amplified by charges. A relatively low-cost and easy-to-use method for estimating the charge level on aerosols has been developped. It uses the properties of an electrostatically enhanced (electrer) filter combined with an optical particle counter to obtain size-dependent charge levels of workplace aerosols
