<abstract displayLabel="Summary">NIOSH's new certification requirements are significant because respirator filters are no longer classified by hazard type, such as dust, mist or fumes. Instead, filters are classified by their ability to resist degradation in the presence or absence of oil particles. This means companies will need to change their criteria to select respirators. Most safety professionals will have to learn some new vocubulary to make the right decisions</abstract>
