<subfield code="a">Until recently, benchmarking has been used primarily to improve production and quality. Its use in safety has been limited to total OSHA frequency comparisons. Now, however, industry data and a methodology to thoroughly conduct data analysis portion of safety benchmarking are available. As a result, one firm's safety efforts can be compared to those of others within the same industry. Such analysis is straightforward and requires only work-hour information, OSHA200 logs, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data and workers' compensation (WC) claims data. BLS and WC data serve as the benchmarks. Results identify performance gaps and point to improvement projects</subfield>
